Offender Locator, a product of Ridge Labs LLC ("we," "our," or "the app"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and our website, sexoffendersearch.com (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you consent to the practices described below.

Information We Collect

Location Data

  • What we collect: your device's geographic location (latitude and longitude)
  • When we collect it: only when you grant location permission and tap "Use my location" in the app
  • How we use it: solely to center the map on your area
  • Optional: location access is completely optional. The app works fully without it — you can search any address instead.

Account Information (Pro Subscribers)

  • What we collect: your email address and password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider)
  • Why we collect it: to maintain your Pro subscription and send you registry alerts via push notification and email
  • How it's stored: securely in our database with encryption and row-level access controls

Monitored Addresses

The addresses, labels (e.g., "Home"), and alert radii you choose to monitor. These are the core of the Pro alert feature and are stored so we can check them against registry data daily.

Searched Addresses

The addresses and locations you search are processed to return nearby registry results and may be logged in aggregate to operate usage limits and improve coverage.

Notification Data

Device push-notification tokens (if you enable push alerts) and your alert channel preferences.

Purchase Information

When you subscribe to Pro features, payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do NOT receive or store:

  • Credit card numbers
  • Bank account information
  • Apple Pay details

We DO receive:

  • Subscription status (active/expired/cancelled)
  • Subscription type (annual/lifetime)
  • Original purchase date
  • Expiration date (for recurring subscriptions)

This information is used solely to provide you with Pro features.

Pro Subscription Options

  • Pro Annual: $39.99/year (auto-renewable; eligible new subscribers may be offered a discounted first year)
  • Pro Lifetime: $149.99 (one-time purchase)

Automatically Collected Information

  • Device information: a device identifier used to enforce fair-use search limits, plus device type, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting and app improvement
  • Usage data: basic analytics about which features are used, and error logs, to improve the app experience

What We DON'T Collect

  • We do NOT track your location history or store your device location on our servers
  • We do NOT sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
  • We do NOT use tracking cookies or advertising identifiers

Your monitored addresses are never shown to other users, never shared with data brokers, and never used for advertising. They exist solely so we can watch the registry around them for you.

How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including registry search, maps, and monitoring;
  • Send the alerts you signed up for — push notifications and emails when registry activity changes near a monitored address;
  • Process and manage Pro subscriptions;
  • Remember your saved addresses and preferences;
  • Send administrative messages such as account and service updates;
  • Enforce usage limits and detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse (such as bulk scraping);
  • Comply with legal obligations.

Data Sources

All offender registry data displayed in the Service (offender profiles, photos, offenses, addresses, and risk levels) is provided by official government sex offender registries in all 50 states, aggregated by third-party data providers. We do not create, modify, or guarantee the accuracy of this registry data. Requests to correct a registry record must be directed to the responsible state agency, which is linked from every profile in the app.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf to run the Service: our database and authentication host (Supabase), subscription management (RevenueCat), transactional email delivery (Resend), push notification delivery (Expo/Apple), address autocomplete (Mapbox), and our registry data provider (which receives search coordinates, never your identity);
  • Legal authorities, when required to comply with law or to protect our rights and the safety of our users;
  • Aggregated or anonymized data that cannot identify you, for analytics.

These services have their own privacy policies and handle data according to their terms.

Data Storage & Retention

  • Device location is used only to center the map and is NOT stored on our servers;
  • Pro subscriber data is stored securely and used only for subscription management and alert delivery;
  • The app may cache registry data temporarily on your device for performance;
  • We retain your information for as long as your account exists or as needed to provide the Service;
  • You can request deletion of your account data at any time.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account and its data at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app, which removes your account, monitored addresses, alert history, and notification tokens. You can also email hello@sexoffendersearch.com to request deletion. Some records (e.g., purchase history held by Apple) may be retained as required by law.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database, and least-privilege service credentials. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Deny or revoke location permission at any time through your device settings;
  • Disable push notifications at any time through your device settings;
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data;
  • Update or correct your account information;
  • Access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or object to certain processing, where provided by applicable law;
  • Contact us with privacy concerns.

Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. Due to the nature of registry content, the app is rated 17+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If we discover such information, we will delete it promptly.

Third-Party Links

The Service links to official government registry websites and uses the third-party providers listed above. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of external sites. Review their policies before interacting with them.

International Transfers

Your information is processed in the United States, where we and our service providers operate. If you use the Service from another jurisdiction, you consent to this transfer.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date, and where appropriate, via email or in-app message. Continued use of the Service after changes signifies acceptance.
