Several cities and towns passed local ordinances, but the state's highest court struck down Lynn's residency ordinance in 2015 (Doe v. City of Lynn), effectively ending local bans. Where offenders live is therefore governed by registration and verification requirements, not distance rules.
Registration & verification. Registrants must keep their address, employment, and schooling current with the registry, and verify in person on a recurring schedule — more frequently for higher-risk or higher-tier registrants. Failure to register or verify is itself a crime and commonly appears as a listed offense on registry records.
